Mao Zedong adopted his moral throughout China, “Women hold up half of the sky”(marxists.org), by allowing women like this writer to be able to become a resource deployed out of the boundaries of their homes. He once said, "Men and women must receive equal pay for equal work in production” (marxists.org). This allowed women to pursue the same careers as men, such as medicine or law. Since the beginning of his reign, women are now making up 46% of the labor force in China. This allows single mothers in China to be in charge of their own wealth and tend for their families. Women are beginning to be allowed to attend schools at the same curriculum as men, and study subjects at higher levels to lead to professional roles. Mao is making sure that Chinese women have equal opportunities to achieve an education, as well as professional occupations as men, allowing women to make their own financial decisions as opposed to previous Confucius chinese laws a few years ago. His Marriage Law outlawed many harsh practices directed against females, including arranged marriages, concubinage, dowries, and child brides, resulting in women gaining equal rights as men in a world where women are sexualized in many cultures.
