Why do societies adopt dictatorships and single-party states?

Today, nearly all modern societies, including liberal democratic systems have states of emergency, siege, crisis and threats. Totalitarian dictators take notice and arise through appealing to mass populations of individuals, offering simple solutions to chaotic and catastrophic events, or other political/social disputes and focus on development. Dictatorships guarantee Social Order and discipline to help achieve social stability, which is a necessary prerequisite for any kind of economic development attainable. Totalitarian dictators employ political propaganda to decrease the influence of advocates of alternative governing systems (external) or opposing factions (internal). Totalitarian regimes are lead by determined individuals who are gifted in the fields of organization, and administration. They are able to act decisively and without fear of differing opinions.  Although the failure or success of a dictatorship depends on the economy, as well as the education and health of their citizens. If a single-party state were to find itself in a state of concern which required a swift but resolute decision in order to keep its people safe, a totalitarian dictator would be able to take the appropriate measures. A dictator has little else to do but focus their energy on the betterment and advancement of their nation, and can often achieve great success and economic advancement through this. This form of government is short-lived, although they offer good momentary solutions to large crisis, and allow nations to progress both economically and politically.
